Promotional Summary:
The year is 90 A.D., and the Roman Emperor Domitian has unleashed a virulent campaign against the Christians. Held captive by the Romans, the aged apostle John (Richard Harris) struggles to save Christianity from extinction by sending letters to the Christian communities. Driven by the wish to meet the last living witness ofthe Lord's passion, the young Christian Irene succeeds in gaining access to John's prison. Entrusting the written record of his visions to her, he begs Irene to spread its message among the Christians. Theses visions form the contents of the Book of Revelation.
Strengths: Finally, a movie about Christianity during John's exile-imprisonment on the island of Patmos, complete with scenes from of the Book of Revelation. The life of Christians both on and off the island are well done, with Richard Harris masterfully portraying the lead role. Woven into the plot to rescue John from prison is a love story which manages to compliment,  rather than detract, by showing the struggle that couples faced in deciding whether or not to marry in the face of death.
Weaknesses: Though the special effects are not cutting edge, they nonetheless are adequate for creating a sense of awe in viewers.
